A shout-out to Jeff Rottler

Jeff Rottler, Director of Operations and Lead on Sustainable Building, is reducing his commitment to CATIS Mexico this fall to dedicate more time and energy to his growing business in partnership with his wife, architect Laura Campos. Rottler-Campos Studio is gaining the attention of the local and international public. They were featured recently in the LA Times.  Locally in San Miguel de Allende they are building new homes with sustainable concepts.

Jeff has been an inspiration to CATIS Mexico and we will sorely miss his more regular presence. We are proud that he will stay on board with a more limited commitment and wish him the best for his future endeavors.

CATIS Mexico and Brandeis University Partnership

Cameron Plese brings his skills in GIS (Geographic Information Systems), communications, and fundraising to support the CATIS Mexico team as part of his practicum as an M.A. candidate in Sustainable International Development in The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. One of his main contributions will be an interactive water quality map, which will be a useful tool for residents in the Independence Watershed region to increase their understanding of their water. Cameron is passionate about water issues in his home state of Arizona and chose San Miguel de Allende and CATIS Mexico as an opportunity to see how different communities face similar challenges of dealing with overexploited aquifers. In his masters program, candidates must spend six-months in a practicum placement. Cameron arrived early to have a longer experience and will be with us through February 2016.

New Engineers without Borders-UK Placement

Olivia Hobson is midway through her three-month placement with Engineers without Borders-UK (EWB-UK) and CATIS Mexico. She is testing the application of bone-derived biochar in the removal of fluoride from drinking water. She will also be elaborating a research and design plan for future work. We hope to perform initial field trials of a fluoride filtration system prior to her departure. Bo Dury, Lead Consultant, from Newton Europe Limited recently joined Olivia as part of a budding EWB-UK mentoring program which matches expertise with EWB-UK placements. Thank you, Newton Europe Limited, for your support.
